In today’s post, I wanted to take a moment to share my personal journey into the world of doula support and how it has transformed my life in ways I never could have imagined.
As a young girl, I was fascinated with children and always aspired to be a teacher. The idea of having the opportunity to shape and mold the delicate minds of children was truly fascinating. But, it wasn't until I became a mother myself that I truly grasped the profound emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions of pregnancy, child development, and mothering.
With my last pregnancy, I felt a whirlwind of emotions: joy, anticipation, and love, but also fear, anxiety, and uncertainty as our family decided on home birth. Reflecting back on those moments, I found solace in my incredible support system, who shared their warmth, wisdom, and reassurance. I knew I was never alone on this journey, and their presence brought me the strength and confidence to have an empowered birthing experience.
Ironically, this positive experience did not immediately spark a desire to want to become a doula. It wasn’t until nearly two years later as I was having conversations with my own doula that
a fire was ignited within me – a desire to become that beacon of light for other expectant mothers and their families. I found myself up in the middle of the night, researching and reading countless stories of maternal mortality rates. This work chased me down (I tried to run) and really captured my heart, soul, and spirit; I knew it was what I needed to do. And so, my journey into the world of doula support began.
As a doula, I will walk alongside mothers and families as they embark on their own transformative journeys. I've personally experienced the beauty of discovering the strength within and stepping into my power. I've been humbled by the resilience, grace, and love that mothers embody as they nurture and bring new life into the world.
To me, being a doula is not just a profession; it's a calling. It's about standing hand-in-hand with each mother I serve, honoring her unique path, and creating a sacred space for her to feel safe, supported, and empowered. It's about acknowledging the inherent wisdom of a woman's body and nurturing the bond between mother and baby that lasts a lifetime.
So to every mama and mama-to-be reading this, know that you are not alone. You are seen, you are heard, and you are deeply loved. It is my greatest honor to serve as a doula and be a part of your journey as you embrace the miracle of motherhood. And I carry each of your stories in my heart, for they are the reason why I continue to walk this path with passion, dedication, and unwavering love.
With all my heart,
Kendra
